The Farm 51’s New Game Lets You Explore Chernobyl and Pripyat in VR

That's a very interesting idea for a VR game, that's for sure.

The Farm 51 have announced their new game, which is like an interactive documentary in virtual reality. The new game will let you explore Chernobyl and Pripyat in glorious (fake) reality- except without the dangers of deadly radiation that would accompany visiting those places in real life! The game puts players in the shoes of a documentary crew sent to cover the place, and includes the entire areas reconstructed photorealistically, including areas such as the Restricted Zone.

“The Farm 51 was granted special scientific access to areas unavailable to tourists, spending dozens of hours in the area and using its Reality 51 technology to scan locations in detail,” said the studio.

“Minor details, including paint peeling off the walls, scuffs on an abandoned amusement-park ride, and rust on an old cash register were captured with exceptional accuracy utilizing photogrammetry and stereoscopic, 360-degree camera technology.”

The Chernobyl VR Project will support multiple VR headsets such as Oculus, PlayStation VR, Vive and Samsung Gear VR. It will presumably launch in 2016. You can learn more about the game in the video below.
