The Gaming Industry Is Stronger And Better When Nintendo Is Strong, Says Sony’s Jim Ryan

He's right this time.

Sony’s Jim Ryan hasn’t been making the best of statements of late- he criticized backwards compatibility, and went ahead and gave the most nonsensical response to Sony’s refusal to allow cross platform play on the PS4. However, he actually had a sensible view of things when he was asked about Nintendo’s resurgence in an interview with Game Reactor.

“I think in many ways this increased presence in the space is a good thing; it creates conversation, it creates excitement, and certainly having a rejuvenated and energetic Nintendo back, I think it’s a great thing for the industry, because I think the industry is better and stronger when Nintendo is strong,” he said.

He’s not wrong- Nintendo not only manages to bring an entirely new set of customers and demographics to the gaming market, but its entire approach to making hardware and software is ultimately additive, and only serves to reinforce the rest of the industry- just look at how great the first half of 2017 turned out to be, which owes a lot of itself to Nintendo firing on all cylinders with the Switch. May Nintendo’s success with the system and its games continue.
