The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie Supports PS4 to PS5 Upgrade, No Cross-Gen Saves

Only PS4 and PC players can access the VR content using head-mounted displays, though they can be played without VR enabled.

NIS America confirmed recently that The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie, the sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4, would be coming West in Summer 2023. It will be available for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Will there be a PS4 to PS5 upgrade for customers? The answer is yes, but with a possible caveat.

In a new blog post, the publisher confirmed that there would be an upgrade path from PS4 to PS5 but didn’t specify whether it was paid or free. Also, even though there are bonuses for carrying over one’s save data, PS4 saves won’t be compatible with the PS5 version. This means all carryover bonuses will be free for PS5 owners.

However, if you start playing the game on PS4 and want to continue on PS5, you’ll have to start from scratch. Concerning VR support (which is limited to specific sections in side content), it will only be available for PS4 and PC. “Logistical difficulties” prevent the PS5 version from supporting the VR experience. More details on VR mode for PC will be revealed in the future.

The good news is that those without VR headsets can still experience the sections in a non-VR fashion. Stay tuned for more details on the title’s release date in the coming months.
