George Hotz, the infamous iPhone and Playstation 3 hacker, has given up trying to fully unlock the PS3.
Citing his resignation of Twitter earlier, the hacker stated that;
“It was a cool ride, and I learned a lot. Maybe I’ll do in the next few days, a formal reunion.”
Hotz, aka geohot, procured access to the Sony Playstation 3 some time ago, including bypassing some of the on-board security software. Sony responded by releasing a firmware update that prevented the use of alternative operating systems to be used on the console, such as Linux.
He went on to state that he simply hacked the iPhone because he was bored, stating that he felt people took it far too seriously- it is only a phone, after all.
It appears that the task of fully unlocking the Playstation 3 was just too difficult for Hotz, and many fans may have a long wait ahead of them if they wish to see alternative operating systems back on their Sony console.
His Twitter account appears to have since been pulled from the site.
