Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101 is one of the few Nintendo Wii U exclusives that is worth picking up these days. However, the concept – controlling 101 superheroes and facing off against a Monster of the Week – was a little bit different in the beginning.
Speaking to Videogamer, director Hideki Kamiya stated that, “Originally I got an order from the president of Platinum Games, Tatsuya Minami, asking me to create a game idea that had an all-star cast of Nintendo characters plus characters from other games and that’s how the project started.
“I thought how I could satisfy everyone and make everyone happy and I came up with the idea of why not having everyone displayed in the game at the same time. That’s where the idea was born.” Of course, when the project was halted in between, things went off course. When The Wonderful 101 came back into development, the central idea was a lot more different.
Given the presence of games like Super Smash Bros., how would The Wonderful 101 worked out if it indeed did have different franchise characters working together?
