DigitalBattle is reporting that CryEngine 3 costs approx. $1.2 million to license. Normally you wouldn’t notice all these things because the NDA is quite strict, but according to the site’s sources, the figure is just over a million dollars.
CryEngine 3 was first showcased with Crysis 2, and we all know how gorgeous that game looks, especially on the PC. Crytek could have done a lot better though, but with the next-gen approaching soon, we could be seeing some pretty impressive looking games from the studio and the third-party licensee.
For a commercial project, the costs are a bit too high it seems, considering Unreal Engine 3 should be available for a lot cheaper. Of course, this is just pure speculation from me. Crytek is rumoured to be working on a next-gen project for Microsoft.
