Until Dawn 2 Not in Development, Dev Looking at “Similar Experiences”

Supermassive's Pete Samuels also wants to work on other platforms.

Though Supermassive Games blew away our expectations with the PS4-exclusive Until Dawn and pretty much showcased how the interactive adventure game could be done in big budget form, it’s not currently working on a sequel.

This is according to studio managing director Pete Samuels who spoke to Games Industry International and noted that, “There’s a lot of speculation about what we’re doing and what we’re working on right now. We’re not working on Until Dawn 2 at the moment. We’re working on other things.”

And since Supermassive isn’t exclusive to Sony, it’s considering bringing games to other platforms. “We have such a great relationship with Sony. We want to continue to work with Sony, and we are continuing to work with Sony on lots of things. There’s no concern or resentment or any bad feeling. They’re a really important publisher for us, and I hope and expect that they’ll continue to be that. We really want to push to bring those experiences, those cinematic storytelling narrative-driven games, be it horror or not, to other platforms as well.”

In the meantime, it seems that Samuels and his team will look at similar kinds of gameplay experiences in the future. “It seems that the next logical step for us now is to broaden that out into similar experiences, but with differences depending on the IP, the publisher, the platform, so on. That’s what we want, and that’s what we’re really focused on now…to take what we did with Until Dawn and push that even further.”

Hopefully that doesn’t it’ll pump out interactive adventures by the boatload like Telltale Games. What are your thoughts on Until Dawn 2 not being in development? Let us know in the comments.
