Valve Extends Support For iD Tech

Not the id tech you are thinking of.

When I say iD Tech, I don’t mean the engine from id Software that you all must know of. No, When I said iD Tech, I mean the leading summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program for ages 7-18 held at over 80 universities nationwide in the US. Today, Valve announced that it would be extending its support for this program, which students develop their interest in gaming into a full fledged career through projects based learning.

Valve has been a long time supporter of this program, of course. They have been supporting the initiative since 2005, which is more than half the time the program has been in existence. As Valve announces its extension of support, it has confirmed that Steam accounts, Valve games, and the Source SDK will all be made available to students who are a part of iD Tech.

“The purpose of our program is to help students prepare for a career in one of the largest growing fields in the world,” said Pete Ingram-Cauchi, CEO at iD Tech. “The support Valve has provided over the years is a tremendous value to the program and our students.”

It really is good on Valve to support this program, and it is just nice to see so many more students taking up video games as a serious career option.
