Vita to offer solid piracy protection – Sony

We all know how the PSP was almost destroyed due to piracy, and Sony knows it can’t allow Vita to meet the same fate, hence the proprietary memory cards. SCE WWS US head Scott Rhode said that the Vita was designed with anti-piracy measures in mind just like the PS3.

“That was front and center in the early specs of this machine. We needed to have something that would combat piracy from day one, and that’s why the cards that you can purchase for the games are in their own proprietary format,” he said to Gamasutra.

“It’s something that we felt was completely necessary to make sure that people could not pirate these games. I mean, it’s a custom security solution on each one of these cartridges. That is something that we are confident will protect us from piracy for the long term.”

The Vita launches today worldwide — so have you got yours, yet? It’s an awesome device as you can probably conclude from our review over here.
