VR Is A Huge Opportunity, But There Are A Lot Of Challenges, Says EA Exec

One day, VR will actually become a big deal like everyone says it will.

VR is going to be a ‘brave new frontier’ and the ‘next evolution’ of video games- we’ve been hearing that for a very long time, although three major VR hardware launches in the year (Oculus, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR) later, here we are, and nothing’s actually happened yet.

But hey, game makers continue to be excited for it. Take EA, for instance. Speaking at the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco (via DualShockers), Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen talked about the company’s view on virtual reality.

“For us VR is an unique opportunity, because we’re one of the largest makers of deep, engaging games. So it’s a new platform for us to be able to experiment with,” he said, also noting that the format poses a lot of challenges, such as motion sickness, and the computing challenges associated with rendering the same screen twice.

That said, at least EA are actively looking into the format, I guess. A lot of major publishers still haven’t actually committed to the format (which, I mean, given that VR just won’t take off, is that a big surprise?)
