Wasteland 2 Designer Praises Valve, “Saviors of the PC”

Valve Software has received a ton of criticism in the past few years regarding Half Life 3 and the recent viability of Steam Machines, but there’s no denying the work it’s put in to re-establish PC gaming. InXile Entertainment designer Brian Fargo, who is working on Wasteland 2, considers Valve “the saviors of the PC as far as I’m concerned”, especially with regards to popularizing digital distribution on the PC with Steam.

“They’ve been great. You think about where we all were, kind of in the dark ages, when there was nothing. There was just flash.

“[Valve has] opened up a way to get directly to the audience in a way that isn’t politicized, or forces us to do exclusives or all the other things the console guys do.” This is unlike console manufacturers who “put all sorts of guns to our heads” when it came to agreements.

“Valve has all this power but they don’t wield it. They let us all work in an open system. So for that I can’t say enough good things about them.”
