We’ve already discussed the Game Mode that Microsoft are looking to introduce to Windows 10, and the implications that it may have for Microsoft’s larger gaming strategy, but let’s run through a quick primer here nevertheless. According to reports, Microsoft are looking at implementing a Game Mode to Windows 10, that will reduce background OS processes and applications, to maximize the performance and resources available to games.
This comes across as excellent news, and it looks like Microsoft will be making a serious push for it. According to a report on Windows Central, all games developed for Scorpio/Xbox One/UWP will need to include Game Mode compatibility.
The report also says that it is unclear whether or not Game Mode will be available to classic Win32 exe applications, but it does concede that it seems like it might be- so that’s not something I would worry about just yet.
Hopefully, this is something Microsoft take the wraps off of soon- Game Mode could be game changing (literally) for PC gaming, and could actually cause UWP games to be taken more seriously than their tepid reception so far suggests.
