Xbox 720 always-online and no used games rumours are false, claims credible source

Addon Xbox 360 attachment.

Xbox 720 was earlier rumoured to have always-online requirement along with a provision for blocking used games, but according to a new report on VGLeaks, who have proven to be very credible on Durango-based leaks, the system will have neither of the two.

The system won’t have direct backwards compatibility but Microsoft will be selling an addon for the system which will play your Xbox 360 games.

What this means is, not only will be retail titles work but also XBLA games and other digital titles. This is a great move if true but also raises the cost of the system, and an addon will be difficult to attach without making the console bulky.

Microsoft did release a HD DVD addon for the Xbox 360 so such an idea doesn’t seem too far fetched.

Recently Adam Orth was removed from the company for his comments, and while this gave a hint that Microsoft does indeed have plans for always-online, it has now been refuted by a credible source.

Take this with a pinch of salt, of course, since it’s hard to predict what will actually happen until the official reveal which is scheduled to be on May.
