Xbox One X And PS4 Pro Are Pretty Similar, Says Conan Exiles Dev

I mean, that’s not wrong at all.

The thing with the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro is that, even though the PS4 Pro represents a far smaller and more conservative iteration over its base console than the Xbox One X’s more radical rethinking of the original Xbox One, they are, conceptually, the exact same thing in concept: iterative consoles built upon their original base systems. Fans on either side of the console war can argue about the issue all they want, but the fact of the matter is that both are ultimately more similar than most would like to admit.

It’s not just me saying this, either. Tor Egil Andersen, Communications Manager for Funcom, the folks being Conan: Exiles, thinks this too. Speaking to GamingBolt, he said, “The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are pretty similar. The Xbox One X represents a bigger jump from the base console though.”

He also discussed how the necessity to support the base Xbox One alongside the Xbox One X didn’t hold back the development of Conan: Exiles in anyway. “No, it has not held us back. We have already dealt with settings and resolution scaling in between high-end PCs, low-end PCs, the original Xbox One and PS4. We don’t have to make any additional compromises for Xbox One X because Conan Exiles is also running on Xbox One.”

The thing here is that in spite of the conceptual similarities of the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro, Microsoft has, to their credit, made it easier to tap into the One X’s power, which means developers are likelier to support it better. Which is something we do see often. But the rhetoric that one is so much better than the other is ultimately fairly misfounded. Stay tuned for our full interview soon.
