Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is nearing release later this week but the developer is still releasing new details. On the series’ Japanese Twitter, it detailed Expert Mode which allows players to make their playthrough suitably more difficult. In Expert Mode, players can allocate EXP however they’d like.
This means you can make some characters stronger and others weaker. One could also simply keep everyone’s level lower and see how far they can get through the game. Fair warning though: It might be a slog, especially since enemy levels won’t scale to yours.
Another interesting aspect of this mode is leveling down characters, allowing EXP to be funded. This is just another aspect of customization and could be useful for, say, leveling down to see if you can defeat a specific boss while weaker. At least it’s better than playing through the entire game and getting up till point while under-leveled.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition launches on May 29th for Nintendo Switch. It contains additional content in “Future Connected”, an epilogue which adds about 15 to 20 hours of new gameplay.
