After an initial leak on Taiwan’s PlayStation Store, Sega has indeed confirmed that Yakuza Kiwami 2 is in development. It’s a remake of Yakuza 2 which released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and will arrive on December 7th in Japan for PS4.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will run on the Dragon Engine, also used in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Among the new stories and characters is “Truth of Majima Goro”, a sequence which allows players to control the madman Majima Goro. That’s the same Majima Goro who will appear anywhere to fight Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza Kiwami when it releases on August 29th.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will not feature the original game’s voice actors but will have a new cast. Japanese band SiM will also provide the theme song for the remake. Sega has not announced whether the game will be localized for the West.
Along with the base version, there will be a limited three disc Kiwami version with the OST, two CDS for Kiryu and Goro, character business cards, DLC including weapons and costumes, 1 million in-game Yen, a PS4 theme and avatars and more. There will also be exclusive 500 GB and 1 TB PS4 Slim consoles with the Yakuza Kiwami 2 design, likely exclusive to Japan.
