Yakuza: Like A Dragon, the upcoming seventh mainline entry in Sega’s popular flagship action adventure franchise, marks a huge departure from the franchise until now in a lot of ways. It has an absolutely new protagonist (which makes sense, since Kiryu’s story ended in Yakuza 6). It’s eschewing its real time action brawling, and going with turn based battle system, and more RPG than anything.
There’s a lot of changes that can potentially alienate long time series fans. However, there is one way in which fans can take solace in the upcoming game—it brings back a lot of fan-favorite Yakuza characters into the fold, headlined by none other than the eccentric, inimitable Goro Majima.
In his annual Sega Nama livestream, Yakuza producer Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned that Majima would be returning in the new game, alongside Taiga Saejima and Daigo Dojima. This, plus we already know Kiryu makes an appearance (in non-playable form) too. So hey, there’s still going to be a lot of the same Yakuza you’ve come to know and love in the new game. It’s just going to be in a brand new package, is all.
