Aww, isn’t it cute when people shell out thousands of dollars for a fake replica of a controller that doesn’t even exist? No, it’s scary. And apparently, that’s exactly what’s happening with five units of the infamous Nintendo NX controller hoax.
A while back, we caught wind of an alleged leaked controller design for the Nintendo NX. This seemed to fall in line with Nintendo’s own earlier controller patents, which featured an unwieldy, extremely wide take on a typical Xboxstation controller, but with an oval screen taking up the front. It seemed like a joke. Then we remembered the Wii U. “Probably legit.”
But an intrepid hoaxster made (by hand), a couple of controllers that look exactly like the sketches in the patent filing. Fortunately he fessed up to hoax, saving people from living in a world where controllers like that exist. Now, it looks like there’s an Ebay listing for an “Ultra Rare Nintendo Development NX Replica Controller.” Bidding starts at $4,000. Buy it now for $10,000. Make of that what you will.
