Yu Suzuki Wants To Make Shenmue 3

Make it happen, dammit!

Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki recently gave a talk at this year’s Game Developers Conference and talked about how the original Shenmue came to be what it was through its development cycle, and while giving his talk, he talked about his continued desire to make a third and final chapter in the Shenmue series.

He was askeed by a member in the audience whether he would ever like to make Shenmue 3. He replied, via a translator: “Of course I want to make one, if I have the right opportunity, ‘dot dot dot’…”

He spent the rest of his speech talking about the development about the original Shenmue, and how it went from being called The Old Man and the Peach Tree (set in 1950s China with the player looking for a Kung Fu master called Ryu) to Virtua Fighter RPG: Akira’s Story to finally becoming Shenmue as we know it today.

Thanks, Gamasutra.
