Alienation: Sony Talks More About Upcoming PS4 Exclusive

Isolate: Alienation

Housemarque, whom you might know as the people behind the PS4’s hit launch title Resogun, are currently hard at work developing Alienation, a new persistently online game that promises to push the envelope on interactivity and connectivity between players. In a new interview with Gamereactor, Sony XDev Studio’s James Hawkins talked about Alienation’s story and the type of online environment players can expect, giving us more insight into the game that is currently so shrouded in mystery.

“There is a story flow that you go through, but the whole game is online… So people can drop in and drop out of games, you can call for help from other players, and at any time people can come in and help you out,” he said.

Always online play is not necessarily a trend that I endorse, even as more and more games push for it- nevertheless, I am at least willing to give it a chance as long as it is justifying itself by doing something new, rather than being shoehorned into a game that does not need it, as has been the case with so many games in recent years. Hawkins promised, albeit vaguely, that Alienation will definitely present players with something new in that regard.

“I think the key things with the tactics that we’re doing, again playing to the depth of the game, is that when we look at all of the powers and the characters, we’re really looking for abilities that can create new ways for people to play together,” Hawkins said.
