2021’s Aliens: Fireteam Elite wasn’t a massive critical success by any means, but it was a solid co-op experience in its own right, and it looks like developer Cold Iron Studios is set to return with a sequel. What seems like an official internal document detailing Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 has been shared on Reddit, revealing potential information on the unannounced sequel.
As per the document, the sequel is being developed under the codename Project Mocando, and will “improve upon the mechanics, atmosphere, and excitement of the original”. The title will seemingly feature an 8-12 hour long 2-player co-op campaign, as well as the new Annihilation Mode, which is described as “a new spin’ on the original game’s Horde Mode “with a variety of objectives and encounters”.
Interestingly, the document goes on to claim that Project Mocando will feature fixed character presets rather than the custom, customizable characters of the first game. The document mentions five characters, each with their own signature weapon, unique ability, base weapon, and more.
The document also goes on to add that there are no plans for the game to implement microtransactions or loot boxes, and that post-launch DLC plans are undecided. It’s worth mentioning that the document is likely from early in the game’s development. How many of these details will have changed over the course of development remains to be seen- assuming, of course, that it gets announced at some point in the relatively near future.
