AMD Says There Is Solid Demand For Its Semi Custom Solutions

Yes, that includes Scorpio, too.

AMD has some pretty exciting things in the pipeline, but its stock has taken a beating over the last few years, due to investors getting spooked about its long term viability. In a bid to allay fears and concerns of customers, AMD’s CEO Lisa Su has pointed out that there is in fact quite a bit of demand for AMD’s semi custom SoC solutions.

“Turning to our Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom segment,” Su said in a financial call. “Revenue increased 5% from a year ago driven by the latest game console offerings from Sony and Microsoft and our third straight quarter delivering year-on-year embedded revenue growth. We see solid demand for our latest FinFET based semi-custom offerings in 2017, including the planned holiday launch of Microsoft’s 4K-focused Project Scorpio console featuring a new AMD SoC.”

It looks like AMD is counting a lot on Scorpio to lift its tide. That, plus the continued performance of the PS4, which also uses AMD solutions, should hopefully let the company stay afloat until it can unleash its next generation Vega and Ryzen chips on the market in earnest.
