Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Allow Just One Island Per Console

Even if you use multiple copies of the game or have multiple accounts on your Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be bringing the calm and charm of the adorable series to the Switch in less than two months from now, but considering the magnitude of the release, Nintendo have been unusually silent about the game in the lead-up to its release. Recently, however, they updated the game’s page on their Australia site, dropping new details on how the game’s online features will function and what restrictions they will put in place.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow upto 8 total players to live on a single island, while four island residents can live simultaneously on a single Switch console. Meanwhile, upto eight can play together on one island via local wireless or online play, with local wireless play requiring one Switch and one copy of the game per player.

What’s interesting, though, is that there can only be one island in the game per a single console. Even if you use multiple copies of the game on one console, or even if you access the game from different multiple accounts on a single Switch, only one island will be allowed- which essentially means you can only have one active save in the game at a time, irrespective of all other factors.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out on Nintendo Switch on March 20. Nintendo recently unveiled new Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch that will release alongside the game. Take a look at it through here.
