Anthem Will Have Larger Areas Than Destiny, Says Developer

Plus more than one social space is planned, too.

Anthem is the new Destiny style multiplayer shooter from Bioware and EA, due to hit some time this year. What we’ve seen of the game so far looks promising, and the proposition of Destiny‘s addictive gameplay loop combined with Bioware’s penchant for strong storytelling remains an alluring one.

But storytelling won’t be the only way in which Anthem might be superior to Destiny– speaking to a fan on Reddit, Technical Design Director Brenon Holmes confirmed that while the game won’t be a true, seamless open world, the areas it does have will be far larger than the ones in Destiny.

“We’re taking a different approach (we have different tech) [from Destiny], so our areas are a fair bit larger,” Holmes explained. “But there will likely be some loads between some of the areas. We’re still figuring out the exact details on a lot of this stuff.”

He also explained that Bioware was looking at having more than one social space in the game, which again would be a good differentiator from Destiny, which, while having more than one social space, doesn’t actually incentivize players using both.

Anthem is due to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this year.
