Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Epic Mercenary Events Currently on Hold

Ubisoft hopes to bring the events back later this month after resolving issues.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey had a very successful launch, even if some issues cropped up here and there (not taking into account the controversy regarding XP gains and microtransactions). However, one problem that the developer has been unable to solve is the Epic Mercenary Events. Originally meant to start on October 17th, it’s been cancelled twice thus far.

In a recent statement, Ubisoft revealed that it was temporarily removing the Epic Mercenary Events until it resolved related issues. “Two weeks ago, when we attempted to launch the first Epic Mercenary Event with Damais the Indifferent, we discovered that the content didn’t properly appear for a majority of our players.

“It wasn’t satisfactory to have an event available to only a portion of our players, so we decided to temporarily remove the Epic Mercenary Events from the game altogether until the issue is resolved.”

Epic Mercenary Events are meant to be weekly rotating contracts against tougher foes, and would tie in with the Epic Ship Events. Thus far, the latter has been working well enough. Ubisoft revealed that it would bring back Epic Mercenary Events later in November, and would provide a bonus for players until then. “We will activate 1x Epic Ship Event each week moving forward. And as a thank you for your patience and understanding, we will be activating a discount of -80 Orichalcum for the Legendary item that Sargon (Oikos of the Olympians) will sell next week.”

On the plus side, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey did receive its first Lost Tales of Greece story in a recent update. That same update brought number of quality of life improvements, like auto-crafting arrows if enough resources are available. Check out the full patch notes here for more information.
