The latest issue of gaming magazine Edge has ton of details on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins, and thanks to a compilation post on Reddit, we have them here for your viewing pleasure. Several of them are small and interesting pieces of trivia about what went into creating pieces of the game, while others reveal new mechanics and details entirely.
One of the most interesting things in there talks about an in-game mechanic that lets you fast forward the time, a mechanic called Dusk and Dawn. While there’s no other real details on this in the article, we’re assuming that there has to be a reason for this mechanic to exist, and that the time of day might actually determine other important aspects in the game (such as stealth, for instance).
Bayek will apparently also have a firebomb in his arsenal, though as per cutscenes from side quests, he will also act sort of as an uncle to the local kids of his area. As for the sandy setting of ancient Egypt, the team took hundreds of pictures of rocky terrain in the Nevada Desert to help them design Origins’ sand sections.
The in-game simulation of Egypt, according to the article, is being done on one of Abstergo’s Animus machines, which hints at interesting stuff for the game’s modern day storyline. We certainly hope it is different from what we saw in something like, say, Black Flag, but there’s no other details to speak of yet, so the only thing we can do is keep our fingers crossed.
There’s a lot of other interesting stuff in the article, such as the nature of the game’s living, breathing open world, and side missions that are a bit like the time anomalies we saw in Unity or Syndicate.
