Assassin’s Creed Origins Will Have Loot Boxes

But it's unconfirmed whether the loot boxes can be bought using real money.

Recent releases such as Middle-Earth Shadow of War and Forza Motorsport 7 have all featured loot boxes, a mechanic whereby players can buy special items or get awarded with  a random item. We have now learnt that Assassin’s Creed: Origins will also feature loot boxes in the form of “Heka” chests. These will reward a random sword or shield to the player.

In the preview builds, it appears that these Heka boxes may be bought with in-game currency but it has become a cause for concern whether this is a sign that the game will feature annoying micro-transactions.

Loot boxes seem to have become a gaming staple by now and while many have expressed distaste at the new practice, others are of the opinion that it is fine as long as it doesn’t provide an unfair advantage. Spending real money in the game should only make the experience a little bit more convenient and nothing more. Since many are looking to the game to revitalize the series, it would be unfortunate if the presence of ‘on your face’ micro-transactions ruined the game’s experience.

You can check out the ‘Heka” chests in the video below (skip to 2:30). Assassin’s Creed: Origins is set to release for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 27th.
