Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to Make Navigation More Fluid Than Unity

Creative director Marc-Alexis Côté also explains the inclusion of the new grappling hook.

Remember all those cool buildings in Assassin’s Creed: Unity that were an absolute chore to navigate into? Ubisoft has heard those complaints – among others – loud and clear and will look to improve the overall movement in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate.

In a video interview with Resero (transcription courtesy of VG247), creative director Marc-Alexis Côté said that, “In terms of navigation, we’ve improved the entry into window, which was something players were complaining about last year.

“We really took that to heart, tried to find solutions to make it better and make the navigation more fluid over all, so that players would stick less on objects that they don’t want to, [and it would be] much more driven by where the player wants to go.”

There seems to have been a fair amount of criticism concerning the grappling hook since some hardcore players believe it makes the exercise of climbing needless but according to Côté, it will only allow players to traverse the rooftops that much more easily.

“Victorian London is a very different city than what we’ve built in the past – the streets are much wider, and with modernity comes much higher buildings. We’ve got the tallest building we’ve ever had in the franchise.

“One of the things we know for a fact from all the years of experience we have on Assassin’s Creed is: the easier it is for players to get onto rooftops, the more they enjoy the game. This is really what we’re focused on.”

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate releases on October 23rd for PS4 and Xbox One while the PC version is out in Q4 2015.
