Following the recent and not entirely unforeseen delay of Assassin’s Creed Unity, the Assassin’s Creed Unity showcase at PAX Prime has been supplemented with some new details courtesy of Creative Director Alex Amancio. Here’s what we’ve been told thus far.
Thankfully, the modern day story portion of Assassin’s Creed Unity takes a considerably different turn from that of the Desmond Myles story. If you remember how that story actually unfolded and understood it, then good for you. Because it was a mess.
Furthermore, our pointy hooded hero Arno is in no way, shape or form related to Desmond Myles, he is from another bloodline. Although, similarly to to Desmonds, Ezio who sometimes spoke Italian. Arno will occasionally speak partially in French.
A large portion of the games engine was completely redeveloped for the creation of Assassin’s Creed Unity, and given the huge crowds and dynamically changing crowd behaviour, this isn’t hard to believe. On the subject of development, that recent delay has been attributed to further refining the subtle nuances of the game, Alex says that the little details “can be the difference between a good game and a great game.” and that this final development stretch is when it all “comes together”.
Progressing through the game will see Arno have four different specializations that can be focused on, creating a leaner and more focused assassin. When Arno reaches the rank of Master Assassin he will be able to purchase every skill available to him, however getting ever weapon is apparently going to be “a different story”. This might mean that the player needs to acquire the item themselves and return it to a stronghold of sorts.
As you can no doubt tell, this is looking to be the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed game to date and certainly looks to be improving the formula. Now all you have to do is fuel your hype train and wait for November to role around.
