I love Assassin’s Creed games, a lot, but even I have to admit, the tech powering the games was getting a bit old and creaky. Nowhere was this more evident than in 2012’s Assassin’s Creed III, which was a buggy, glitchy, sprawling mess (2013’s Black Flag managed to get its act together a little bit).
Anyway, those afraid that the move to next generation consoles with this year’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity might create similar technical issues, may now rest assured. Ubisoft claims that it has rebuilt the tech powering Assassin’s Creed from the ground up for its debut outing on next gen.
“Keep in mind, this game has had almost a four year development. Before we even started the content or anything it was almost a year of development of technology and features and stuff like that.”
“So for this game, because it’s the first from the ground up next-gen title, we essentially had to do most of the systems from scratch. Which meant that ‘now we have to re-do that, we might as well do this’ – it was that sort of thing,” they told OXM.
This all sounds well and good, but I’m going to keep my optimism in check, simply because they did in fact make similar promises for Assassin’s Creed III as well.
