Battlefield 1 Designer Addresses Launch Concerns, Open Beta Will “Ensure Stability”

This won't be a repeat of Battlefield 4's failings.

For all the positive reception DICE’s in-engine trailer for Battlefield 1 has received, there are still many concerned about what the launch will look like. If you’ll recall, Battlefield 4 impressed us greatly but then launched with some of the worst online performance and glitches seen yet.

It hasn’t all been dismal. DICE handled the launch of Star Wars Battlefront very well and as lead designer Daniel Berlin told GamesBeat, the upcoming beta should further ensure a smooth launch.

“It’s a focus for us. We know [Battlefield 4] was a difficult launch. We’ve been working on this for a long time. We released Battlefront, which did really well. We’re pushing an open beta to ensure stability. We’ve taken a lot of learnings from that experience, and we feel like we succeeded with Battlefront. We’ll take everything we learned there and apply it to Battlefield 1 as well.”

Battlefield 1 is out on October 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC with EA/Origin Access members receiving early access on October 18th.
