Battlefield 1, DICE’s next game in the series, set in the criminally underutilized World War 1 era, has an insane amount of hype behind it. And if this generation has taught us something, it’s that games that are hyped this much usually tend to disappoint.
However, Battlefield 1 may be the rare exception, at least if this early review for the game, published by the fine folks at This Gen Gaming, is anything to go by. The review awards the game a glowing 9/10, noting that “Whilst other FPS games this year and in previous years have switched to jet-packing and wall-running, Battlefield 1 feels like it’s reinvigorated a genre that I had grown tired of in recent years. By making this risky decision, DICE and EA actually have proven you don’t need to go futuristic in-order to reinvigorate a genre. In fact, DOOM as well as Battlefield 1 this year prove to me that sometimes reverting back to the basics can be one of the most refreshing experiences possible.”
So, this sounds like a game that will definitely end up living up to the hype. In fact, given that DOOM still remains one of the best games of this year, Battlefield 1 may end up being a legitimate Game of the Year contender, when all is said and done. GamingBolt’s own review will be going live sometime next week.
Battlefield 1 is due to release later this month on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
