Bravely Default 2 was an unlikely sequel we didn’t think we’d be getting anytime soon, but it’s going to be out later this year- and that might not be it for the series either. It seems the developers already have ideas for what a Bravely Default 3 would look like.
Speaking in an interview with Famitsu (translated by Nintendo Everything), Bravely Default 2 producer Tomoya Asano said that he already has a concept for a fourth game in the series. Asano said that he hasn’t thought of the specifics yet, so it might even be a mobile title, and that if fans support the series, the developers might be given the go ahead by Square Enix to make it.
“I do have a concept for it,” he said. “I haven’t nailed down the particulars intentionally, so it could even be a smartphone game. Maybe I’ll have the opportunity to make it in the future if fans support the series.”
Octopath Traveler is also getting an entry on mobile devices, so seeing a similar approach for Bravely Default wouldn’t be very surprising. That said, it’s all dependant on how well Bravely Default 2 does critically and commercially, so perhaps it’s best not to get too far ahead of ourselves.
Bravely Default 2 is exclusively for the Switch later this year, and a playable demo is currently available.
