Brendan Greene Not Bothered By PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Clones But Hopes They Put Their “Own Spin”

With the great success of Greene's PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, imitators have cropped up, but Greene isn't too bothered by this.

We all know by now that PlayerUnknown’s battlegrounds is huge. It’s so huge in fact that it has over 20 million players playing it, without the game even getting out of Early Access. With all that success however also comes imitators trying to cash in on the new trend in gaming.

With games such as Epic Games’ Fortnite now including a battle royale mode, Bluehole even threatened to take legal against the developer. however Brendan Greene isn’t too concerned with clones popping up all over the place. Speaking to Finder , he stated that he isn’t “overly bothered” by others replicating PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds but he hopes that they don’t just “lazily copy” his work. Instead, he hopes that these other developers put their “own spin” on the genre with their games.

It would certainly make it more interesting to see similar games with their own unique twists to the concept, such as seen with Fortnite’s building mechanics.
