Like with many other corporations, Sledgehammer Games rung in 2017 last night with many studio executives tweeting out wishes for the new year. However, one tweet by Michael Condrey of Sledgehammer Games truly sticks out. You see, this tweet included a most puzzling image, one that Condrey himself called attention to.
The weaponry showcased in this image in the tweet seems to be very unlike the modern, futuristic weaponry that has been featured in recent Call of Duty games. In fact, it seems to be more World War 2 era than anything- could this mean that Sledgehammer Games are hinting at a return to a historical shooter with their upcoming Call of Duty game this year? After all, Battlefield 1 saw incredible success after going to World War 1- maybe Activision took notice and decided to ditch their forced emphasis on the futuristic setting, too?
On the other hand, what about Advanced Warfare? Sledgehammer Games’ debut effort in 2014 was well received, and has a rich setting and lore that could stand to be explored and fleshed out further- are they just going to be ditching that?
So many questions, but none of them are unlikely to be answered until this year’s Call of Duty game is officially unveiled. Judging by precedence, that will be some time around May.
