If you’ve been noticing a rise in strong female characters in Call of Duty, especially with the recent Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare, then it’s no coincidence…at least in the latter’s case.
Sledgehammer Games co-founder and studio head Michael Condrey spoke to Games Industry International during DIE about including strong female characters in Advanced Warfare‘s campaign and how important it was to the developer.
“We’ve tried to do a lot at the studio to present strong women in our games. You’ve seen it today, that the role of women in the military is important so we tried to represent that in Advanced Warfare as a way to show that we believe there are women gamers who want to play, there are women gamers who want to develop games, there are women gamers in the military who are part of real combat around the globe, keeping us safe.”
Sledgehammer is essentially working to show their respect for female soldiers and the service they render. “It’s something we’ve tried to do and continue to do in Call of Duty.”
The developer is currently hard at work on its next project, though it will be Infinity Ward’s turn at Call of Duty this year.
