Anecdotally, the biggest reason that Call of Duty sells every year is because most of its userbase wants their annual fix of a multiplayer shooter- a lot of Call of Duty fans don’t even play the campaign, and if they do, they treat it as training grounds for the true meat of the game, the multiplayer modes. So a Call of Duty game that doesn’t have the multiplayer mode functioning is rather useless to most of the game’s market.
That happened with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on the Xbox One recently- after patch 1.06 for the game was released, many players found themselves unable to connect and play online, especially in the game’s Zombies in Spaceland mode. The problem was apparently serious and widespread enough for Activision to roll out an emergency update for the game, that apparently resolves the issue.
The hotfix fixes a problem in the code of the previous update, that was causing the issue. If you play Call of Duty on Xbox, make sure you download this update.
