Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Developer Addresses Lack of Spec Ops Missions

Players will be "seeing more missions come online soon enough."

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out and already topping the first week sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in the UK. Along with myriad of other issues, though, players are beginning to notice the lack of Spec Ops missions. Before launch, it was revealed that players would partake in multi-stage Operations with different classes to choose from.

However, there would also be “Missions” which provide “a more curated experience where your proficiency with specific weapons, killstreaks, and other tools will be tested. These Missions are extremely replayable, and you’re able to achieve a 1, 2, or 3-star ranking based on your performance. Naturally, there will be an ‘Infinity Ward time’ that you can attempt to beat!” If you’ve played Spec Ops mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, this will sound familiar.

Upon launch, however, there was only one Mission available called “Safeguard” and it involved tackling waves of foes. No 3 star rating or “Infinity Ward time” available to beat. Infinity Ward senior communications manager Ashton Williams replied to the lack of Missions and other features in a Reddit thread: “We’ll be adding new missions as we go along, so you’ll be seeing more missions come online soon enough!”

Whether this means new missions will be available in the coming days, weeks or months is unclear. Still, it’s a little disheartening to be told that Missions would be available out of the box with different star ratings and not have that available. And it doesn’t help that Safeguard can suffer from a bugged ending.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Stay tuned for more details on patches and other improvements.
