Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Beta Might Have Confirmed That the Game Will Have Loot Boxes

Gritty and grounded surprise mechanics.

That Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have microtransactions is something that doesn’t even need to be mentioned. It’s an Activision game, and it’s a Call of Duty title- of course it will have microtransactions. Moreover, that it will also have loot boxes is also something most of us expect, given the fact that Black Ops 4 and WW2 both had them too.

How the game will be monetized isn’t something Activision has spoken about just yet – they usually like to be all shady about it and insert outrageous microtransactions into the game some time after launch, so that launch review scores aren’t affected – but the game’s beta, which recently went live for PS4 users, may have confirmed the presence of loot boxes anyway.

YouTuber NerosCinema has uploaded a short clip on Twitter, showing the rewards one receives for hitting Rank 6 in the beta, which also include a loot box. Of course, given that this is a beta, it’s not exactly completely representative of the final game, but it wouldn’t be outrageous to assume that this will be in the final game as well. Here’s hoping it’s only cosmetic (it probably will be).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out on October 25 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re more concerned with its campaign and how that’s shaping up, Infinity Ward will be showing footage from it at the end of this month– so stay tuned.
