Cancelled Sony Santa Monica Project Was A New IP For The PS4

Layoff might have resulted in a new IP being cancelled.

Sony Santa Monica Studios, the developers of the God of War franchise, were recently hit with a massive layoff that saw 50 workers losing their jobs, and clearly, veterans of the development team weren’t safe either. A lot of old faces lost their jobs too. However, some new information that has come up suggests that a game was also cancelled due to this layoff, and that game was probably the first of a new IP.

Rob Davis, a senior designer at SSM, removed “Working on a new IP” from his profile description on Twitter soon after the news of the layoffs surfaced. Adam Puhl, another one of the people who lost their jobs due to the layoffs, also removed “working on a new IP” from his Twitter profile. He had previously worked on God of War 2 and 3 as design director.

This new IP was supposedly being developed under the direction of God of War III director Stig Asmussen.

Jason De Heras, who worked on God of War 3 and Ascension as a senior game designer, also lost his job at Sony Santa Monica. Jonathan Hawkins who was a Lead Level Designer has also confirmed that the new IP is canceled.

Sony probably will not talk about a project that was never announced, but we’ll keep you updated in case any information comes our way. Stay tuned.
