Paul W.S. Anderson, who’s been the director, writer and producer of the five part Resident Evil film series, was recently at the Beijing International Film Festival, where he attended a summit to talk about the potential of 3D in the film industry and talked about the upcoming ‘Rising Resident Evil’, confirming that Chinese actress Li Bingbing will be in the film.

“I think China has an amazing opportunity that 3D is still alive and well here, and people still pay to the cinema and go see it,” Anderson said. “I think you should really cherish that.

“I have to go home tomorrow for ‘Rising Resident Evil’. That’s what I’m going to do. As you know, Bingbing is in the last movie and she will be there again… After ‘Resident Evil’ I want to come to China and shoot film again.”

Anderson added that his next “Resident Evil” will “definitely be 3D”.

Up and coming British theatre writer will be adapting Ubisoft's blockbuster franchise to the big screen.

Ubisoft and New Regency, who announce in October that they will be partnering on the silver screen adaptation of the former’s super successful video game franchise, Assassin’s Creed, have announced that they have hired a scriptwriter for the film which is tentatively planned for a 2014 release.

Up and coming talented British theatre writer Michael Lesslie has signed on to write the script for Assassin’s Creed, Hollywood Reporter reports.

Lesslie doesn’t have any silver screen scripts to his name, but he’s been known for great English plays. Hollywood Reporter mentions that Lesslie wrote the play, Prince of Denmark, which was performed at the National Theatre last year.

He has also worked on a number of short films.

Assassin’s Creed is being co-produced by Michael Fassbender, who will also star in the movie, and the film is supposed to be the start of an entire franchise. Considering Ubisoft haven’t hired a big name to pen the project and have gone with an actual talent, it looks like they might be really serious about this project.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Ubisoft has been pushing its games to get adapted into proper movies recently. After confirmed news that Michael Fassbender will be in the Assassin’s Creed movie and that Tom Hardy will be in the Splinter Cell movie, reports are now emerging that Ubisoft is also working on a Ghost Recon motion picture.

According to a report in the LA Times, Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ chief executive Jean-Julien Baronnet is working around with the idea. He is, according to the report, “putting together a pitch for a movie based on the Ghost Recon games about a special operations military squad.”

It would be interesting if it did happen, because Ghost Recon games are never about their stories or their characters or backstories or storytelling. So having a Ghost Recon movie would be an intriguing project.

To give you a taste of what it would be like, you can check out the 25-minute live action short film released by Ubisoft earlier in 2012 to promote the release of Future Soldier.

What do you think? Would a Ghost Recon movie be interesting? Let us know in your comments below.

That's all well and good, but where the hell is Half-Life 3?

Concept Half-Life 3 Image

With Ubisoft pushing its game-tie in movies by hiring Michael Fassbender in their Assassin’s Creed film and The Dark Knight Rises’ Tom Hardy in their Splinter Cell movie, and the Deus Ex movie also making good progress, people have been getting really excited about seeing their favourite video games being adapted into movies- properly.

One of those game-to-movie adaptations people are genuinely excited about is Half-Life. Because, well, it’s Half-Life. For those of you who’re desperate for even the slightest talks of a Half-Life movie, this might be interesting.

Long-time Valve writer, Marc Laidlaw (not to be confused with BioWare’s Dragon Age 2 man, Mike Laidlaw) has chipped in with his own suggestions on who he thinks could direct a Half-Life move properly, mentioning the likes of Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro.

“If Paul Verhoeven returned to science fiction films, he would do something insane with Half-Life…maybe something objectionably insane, but at least not boring,” Laidlaw said to New Rising Media (via OXM UK). “Peter Jackson has proved himself an amazing purveyor of faithful adaptations.

“Guillermo del Toro has the horror vibe that I think a lot of people miss out on when thinking about a Half-Life movie. Half-Life is essentially horror after all. The science in it barely passes as hand-waving, but when a headcrab jumps at your head, it’s a precisely engineered jolt.”

He concluded: “There are probably a lot of good potential directors, but I think most of them are busy pursuing their own visions.”

What do you guys think? Do you have any ideas or suggestions about a Half-Life movie? Fire away in the comments below.

Wait, there's a Deus Ex movie?

Man, it’s been a good few weeks for video game film adaptations. First it was announced that Michael Fassbender will star in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, then it was announced that Tom Hardy will star in the Splinter Cell movie. And now, it’s been announced that screenwriter/producer/director Scott Derrickson will be directing the upcoming Deus Ex movie. CBS Films has made the official announcement.

He will also be the screenwriter for the movie, which bodes well. I guess.

Scott Derrickson is know for directing movies such as The Exorcism of Emily Rose (starring the oh-so-attractive Jennifer Carpenter) and Sinister. The Deus Ex movie is planned for a 2014 release.

Derrickson is pretty enthusiastic about the project. “Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence,” he said. “By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie.”

What do you guys think? Is it a nice fit? Tell us in your comments below.

Warner Bros. has announced that the Mortal Kombat movie series will be receiving a reboot soon, in the form of a new adaptation of the classic, super-violent video game from the old days.

The man who’s been handling the successful and surprisingly web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Kevin Tancharoen, will direct the movie.

“We’re preparing right now for the film with Kevin Tancharoen, [who] directed the digital series for us,” Warner Bros. said. “He’s at the helm of the forty, fifty million dollar film.”

Tanchareon is also working on a second season of the websisodes series Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

The video game series got a much needed reboot a couple years back, and it worked better than many would have expected. Hopefully, the film reboot will be the same. It’s a video game-t0-film adaptation, though, so I wouldn’t keep my hopes up. But let’s see where it goes.

The Mass Effect movie- yes, it still exists- which was earlier being written by Mark Protosevich (who wrote the screenplay for I Am Legend) is now being written by Morgan Davis Foehl.

Foehl hasn’t really ever gotten to write scripts for a movie, but his script for a thriller called Whatever Gets You Through The Night, which never saw the light of the day, got into Hollywood’s 2009 Black List, meaning it was one of the best non-published scripts around.

He is also known for his work as co-editor of I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and Click.

Legendary Entertainment signed Foehl on for the project for his love for the Mass Effect franchise and for having penned several action pics with a “strong espionage bent”.

The crew is forming up nicely so far, and maybe, just maybe this will be a good movie (it shows potential for sure). Now only if Legendary announced in a few days that Matthew Fox is portraying Commander Shepard, and I’m sold.

Here it is, what many have been waiting for, the Official Avengers Movie Trailer. The film is coming out in 2012 and there is very little doubt that a game will follow, hopefully being a good one considering a lot has went into making this film. As the intricate other Marvel films were released timely to lead up to the event of the assembling of the team that any Marvel fan would know as ‘The Avengers’.

The song you will here behind it is “We’re In This Together” by the Alternative Rock group Nine Inch Nails which any old school fan of the music in my generation will be happy to hear… even though it is one of their latter releases. Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and more make up the Avengers hitting a theater near you on May 4th 2012, 3D where available.

Here is the first video walkthrough for a game people have been waiting so long for, hell I forgot about it… Aliens: Colonial Marines. This INCREDIBLE video is a demo of footage from the game narrated by Gearbox Software President, Randy Pitchford (who I vote should play a role in the next Aliens film). Amazing references to the series and films with the video showing off a much more personal experience that sticks much closer to the original franchise/films.

It is drop in/out 4 player co-op… Power Loaders anyone? This game could not have been made by a better team as you can see and hear from the video they are hardcore, dedicated Alen(s) fans. The video goes pretty in depth considering what we has seen so far. You will be able to step into the shoes of a Colonial Marine to take on the historical well known Aliens in the 4 player co-op FPS in early 2012, for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. If you liked this movie called Alien, released in 1979 along with its sequels and you like video games, this is one title for you. Personally I cannot wait for this game.

In partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and developed by critically acclaimed studio Gearbox Software, Aliens: Colonial Marines will bring new levels of bone-chilling suspense and adrenaline-filled action to the renowned franchise. The game pits players against the universe’s ultimate alien killing machines, the Xenomorphs, in claustrophobic environments guaranteed to produce blood curdling thrills that the movie is renowned for.

Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.

Netflix has lost a lot of its credibility with their customers with them deciding to cancel the whole DVD mailing system and only sticking with the streaming portion of the company. This is on top of them getting rid of the Starz as one of their movie supporters. Apparently though Netflix is coming back as they are splitting their streaming portion into one company remaining Netflix and creating another company called ‘Qwikster‘ where you will be able to receive Movies and Games in the mail. This will hopefully redeem their loyal customers faith in them.
