Could Overwatch Be Coming to Consoles? Evidence Continues To Build

Blizzard's shooter could be coming to consoles.

Blizzard’s excellent shooter Overwatch seems to be a treat- which is why it makes sense that so many players will want to play it. Happily, it seems as though Blizzard will be spreading the love, as more and more evidence continues to mount that Overwatch might be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Fans are actually expecting that announcement at BlizzCon right now, and they have a lot of good reasons to, as well- especially since some pretty compelling and irrefutable proof that the game is coming to the consoles has emerged in the beta files for the game on the PC.

To wit:

  • Strings for authentication checks in the game’s source code (INITIAL_PSN_OR_XBL_AUTH; WAITING_FOR_PSN_OR_XBL_AUTH) (discovered by Overpwn)
  • The European website noting consoles in source code (noted by WCCFTech)
  • The user friendly interface, which doesn’t use as many inputs
  • Controller support for the PC version

So, could Overwatch indeed be coming to consoles? Especially given how Diablo made its way over to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One to great success, it’s not unreasonable to suppose that Overwatch might make the jump too. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll keep you posted.
