In the PlayStation 1 version of Crash Bandicoot: Warped, inputting up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, square on the main menu screen unlocked a demo for the then upcoming Spyro the Dragon. When the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy released last year, people immediately tried the combination on the title screen of Warped, expecting an Easter egg for the then unannounced but widely rumoured Spyro remaster trilogy—and while the game responded by selecting an invisible menu option, they didn’t know what that option was because it was, well, invisible.
Now that the Spyro Reignited trilogy has been announced, you would expect that to change. And sure enough, it has—inputting the code does end up unlocking something for the upcoming trilogy remaster, it’s not a demo. It’s a trailer. The same trailer as the one used for today’s announcement, actually.
It’s still a neat callback to the original games. Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is available now on PS4, with Switch, Xbox One, and PC versions coming later this year. Spyro, meanwhile, has only been announced for the PS4 and Xbox One so far.
