Crytek has had its fair share of troubles over the years, which manifested in the closure of several studios. Times are changing though – CEO Cevat Yerli, who helped found Crytek, has announced that he will be stepping down. His brothers Avni and Faruk Yerli will be taking his place as joint CEOs.
Though Cevat’s resignation as CEO hasn’t been explained, he’ll still remain with the company as a “Strategic Shareholder”. The release of Hunt: Showdown seems to be the wider context for the change in leadership though.
Cevat noted in a recent statement that, “With the company in a strong position, now is the ideal time to recognize the existing leadership’s excellent achievements over these past two years and formally transition executive leadership to Avni and Faruk.
“I have been honored to serve as CEO of the company I founded with my brothers almost 20 years ago and have seen the team accomplish breakthrough things in that time. I look forward to continue helping Crytek as a major shareholder, and I am very excited to see what tomorrow brings.”
Support for CryEngine will still continue as the company licenses it to other studios. Free to play shooter Warface will also function as usual and development on Hunt: Showdown is also ongoing. The latter recently released on Steam Early Access following an alpha test and has seen a good amount of consumers hop in. The reception is mixed though with optimization issues, server problems and more being reported. We’ll find out in due time how the game shakes out.
