There was some concern about whom StudioMDHR’s Cuphead would appeal to given how opposed the amazing visual style was to the challenging gameplay. As it turns out, quite a few people. We’ve already seen updates on Steam Spy about the number of PC players but the developer recently confirmed that Cuphead has sold over 1 million units since launch.
In a recent update, Studio MDHR’s Chad and Jared Moldenhauer stated that, “Cuphead has only been out for two weeks and we never could have dreamed of the reception we’ve received from our amazing fans! Today, we wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your support and we’re excited to share that Cuphead has gone platinum with over 1 million units sold!
“We have worked tirelessly over the past few years to deliver a game that remained true to our vision and we are both humbled and excited that so many people from around the world are playing Cuphead – it truly makes it all worth it. From all of us at StudioMDHR, thanks again for your support!”
Cuphead is a run and gun platformer with a huge emphasis on boss battles that’s been showcased for years before finally releasing for Xbox One and PC. It’s most attractive feature was the Rubber hose animation style that takes inspiration from 1930s cartoons complete with a swinging jazz soundtrack.
Despite concerns about the difficulty, critics have rated Cuphead very highly especially with regards to how the graphics add to the overall gameplay. You can check out official review of the game here to learn more.
