Remember Cyberpunk 2077? It seems like forever ago that CD Projekt RED announced it. As a matter of fact, the upcoming Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was announced after it, and it is releasing before it (after even suffering a few delays). It makes sense why people have started to question whether the game even exists, and whether it might not have descended into the same nether region of vaporware that, say, The Last Guardian and Agent exist in, in spite of recent assurances from CD Projekt RED to the contrary.
That said, if you were hoping that CD Projekt RED might show it off this E3 (maybe as a surprise?), then you are out of luck as they confirmed today that that will not be happening. As a matter of fact, they re-affirmed their stance that they will only re-introduce the title to the world when they feel ready.
“We wanted to present a certain vision of ourselves. Such a thing is very important for a company like ours – a company that is both the developer and the publisher,” they saidi in an interview with Game Pressure.
“The moment we announced Cyberpunk, we were certainly working on it. Later on, it turned out that we needed help in completing Witcher 3 – lately we have focused a larger part of the team on finishing the game, and after the release we will get back to Cyberpunk. After all, we didn’t announce a release date of the latter, so no one can complain.”
I mean, guys, I get that, but maybe you shouldn’t have announced it to begin with if you couldn’t commit to it that early.
Stay tuned for more information if/when we ever get it, I guess.
