Darkest Dungeon 2 Crosses 100,000 Units Sold

Red Hook Studios is targeting one year of early access development, though it's focused on player feedback and improvements.

After one day of early access, Red Hook Studios’ Darkest Dungeon 2 has already sold over 100,000 units. The roguelite RPG is currently available on the Epic Games Store for PC. It includes the first of five Acts and nine classes to choose from including several mainstays like the Highwayman, Jester and so on.

The developer noted that the current early access version represents “around two thirds or more of the expected final game content” with one “final boss” at present and more than 250 items. Four more final bosses will be added over time along with new characters, enemies and items. There’s currently no fixed timeline for early access but the team is targeting “approximately one year.”

“The focus of Early Access is to improve the game based upon player feedback and for us to finish our planned features for the game. We may find that the game needs to be in Early Access for a longer period than expected in order to achieve all of our goals.” It will deploy frequent patches initially to fix bugs and such but larger, more spaced out updates will be provided outside of the immediate launch window. “We have not yet decided on those intervals but will release additional info when are ready to share it.”

Darkest Dungeon 2 takes place directly after its 2016 predecessor and features numerous changes to its combat, introducing tokens for blocking and evading. It does away with randomly generated dungeons and teams of heroes in favor of branching paths of encounters that players must complete in the world with just four heroes. Stay tuned for more details and updates on the title in the coming months.
