Darksiders 3 More Details: Seamless World, Expanded Puzzles, Unreal Engine 4, And More

Rivers in a desert.

Darksiders 3 has been confirmed at long last, bringing the slightly darker, grittier take on the Zelda formula back for a third round. And just like Zelda itself saw some far reaching changes to its standard formula with the superlative Breath of the Wild earlier this year,  Darksiders 3 will be changing its formula a bit, too.

According to IGN, the game world will be entirely open world and connected, a physical and connected space where spatial awareness and distances both make sense. The world will be organically designed, meaning there will never be an area which is totally in a bubble- you’ll always be able to glimpse other areas, ones you have been to and ones you have not, in each area of the world.

Puzzles too have been overhauled in keeping with this, to ensure that they always feel contextually in place, unlike existing separately from their surroundings, which was often the problem in the previous games in the series. This, again, was an issue in earlier Zelda games that Breath of the Wild solved earlier this year.

Finally, this will be the first game in the series to run on Unreal Engine- which is exciting, because that s a highly capable, powerful, engine.

All in all, everything that we hear of Darksiders 3 sounds exciting, and we can’t wait to play it when it finally launches on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC next year.
