Phoenix Labs’ co-op monster hunting action RPG Dauntless has been out for a couple of days now, and it has immediately seen a great deal of success upon launch. The developer announced in a press release that on the day of its release, May 21, the game attracted over half a million players.
That added to the players it had already accrued in its early access period on PC. Collectively, Dauntless has now surpassed 4 million players in total. Meanwhile, players across all platforms have also played the game for over 2 million hours since it launched in full for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, which amounts to a total of 3 million monster hunts.
The game’s free to play nature is sure to have played a huge role in the game’s early success, while early word of mouth must have played its part as well. There’s also the fact that the game launched with full cross-platfom play and cross-progression features across all three of its versions. Add to that the fact that Phoenix Labs also plans on launching Dauntless for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices soon, and we can only see these numbers growing.
