Days Gone New Information: Weapon Crafting, Dynamic Day/Night Cycle, Emergent Gameplay, and More

It sounds like an intriguing game.

Days Gone is Sony Bend’s excellent seeming new IP, an open world post apocalyptic zombie action sandbox game. The game shone in the E3 showing that it got today, and as such, we are all naturally eager to learn more about it.

Speaking to RoosterTeeth, the developers of the game from Sony Bend shared some new information on the title. They revealed, for instance, that the game actually is rendering all of those zombies- it’s not a trick, or a shortcut. There actually are that many objects being rendered. They also touched briefly upon the game’s weapon crafting system, which they described as the player being given tools that they must synthesize to find their way out of situations- something that does make sense in a post apocalyptic context, I guess.

Speaking of which, the game is set just a few years after the apocalyptic event. The story is meant to be a sandbox style depiction of what would happen when shit hits the fan, really. The game really impresses upon the player their distance in tie from civilization, by convincingly putting them in the wilderness- wilderness marked by hostile wether, dynamic day and night, and yes, wildlife.

Finally, the developers also confirmed that Days Gone will have emergent gameplay- something that we honestly could have guessed based on the E3 showing. I can’t wait for the game to be out on PS4, because this is one title I’m itching to give a go.
